Mayra Bueno Silva’s Bold Challenge: Calls Out Julianna Pena and Demands Title Shot Following Upset Over Holly Holm

Following her second-round submission upset over Holly Holm at UFC Vegas 77, Mayra Bueno Silva called out former UFC Bantamweight Champion Julianna Pena and went on to say she deserves a title shot.

First, in calling out Pena, Mayra Bueno Silva said:

“Hey, Julianna Pena, let’s go. I deserve this. You deserve this. The people deserve this. Plus they need a new face. I am the new face. I finish my fights. I did a show for everybody.”

Then, in asking for a title shot, Mayra Bueno Silva continued saying:

“I do what I say. Now I want a belt because I deserve. Nobody finish like me. I deserve belt,” Bueno Silva said following the fight.

The 31-year old Bueno Silva has won four consecutive fights and holds a 6-2-1 career record in the UFC, but is undefeated in the Bantamweight division.

With the UFC Bantamweight Championship vacated due to the retirement of Amanda Nunes, Bueno Silva definitely has to be looked at as a potential challenger after her high profile win against Holm.

However, with Bueno Silva’s mediocre flyweight career, matchmakers will probably make her earn another victory before giving into a title shot. A fight against another top 10 opponent, such as Ketlen Vieira or Irene Aldana, would be exciting to watch and propel her to the top 5 of the UFC Women’s Bantamweight division.

As for the title fight, the UFC has to be looking at a match between Raquel Pennington vs. Julianna Pena, pending the health of Pena and whenever it fits on an upcoming card. Pennington is already making some noise about the potential matchup.
